The primary goal of the Working Group is to develop a Data Definition Language (DDL) and Data Modification Language (DML) for XML databases.

A secondary goal has been to create a common Application Programming Interface (API) for accessing and interacting with XML databases that focuses on the functionality of the SiXDML language and is compatible with the XML:DB API

A research paper on SiXDML will be presented at the First VLDB Workshop on Efficiency and Effectiveness of XML Tools, and Techniques (EEXTT2002) on 19 August 2002. The SiXDML presentation will be the first session at the workshop.
